Ethiopia is arguably one of the hidden gems of Africa which have been attracting a large number of tourists for the last few years. Ethiopia is a country full of unique cultural heritage. Our country is blessed with several historical and natural landmarks out of which seven sites are included in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Other than its rich history, Ethiopia is home to some of the most beautiful rugged mountains, rivers, and lakes. Our incredible country also features several parks and forests which are home to exotic wildlife. Top it off with the beautiful tribal people of our country, the scrumptious food, and the famous home-grown coffee.   1. Simien Mountains National Park

Widely recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Simien Mountains National Park is one the most beautiful tourist destination of Ethiopia. The park is often named as the “Grand Canyon of Africa” due to its deep valleys and plateau. Many treks go towards the park where you cannot only find the surreal landscapes but also several animals including Walia ibex and Ethiopian wolf. You can book a guided tour that will take you around the park and will also explain to you about its diverse history.

  1. Lalibela

Lalibela is truly a breathtaking landmark of Ethiopia. Lalibela consists of a unique church complex that includes 11 rock churches which were built in the 12th or 13th century. All the churches are dug into the ground and they have unique architecture like no other in the country. Among all these churches, the Bete Giyorgis Church is by far the most beautiful and popular among visitors. The area around the churches is too remote with no population or any developed streets. Lalibela is also considered as the most important pilgrimage center for the Christians living in Ethiopia.

  1. Danakil Depression

Danakil Depression is a place like no other on this earth. It is also considered as the hottest place in the world. The area consists of boiling springs, active volcanoes, salted basins, and lava lakes. The area looks spectacular due to its changing color. You cannot think of walking around the area due to its hottest temperature. It is recommended to book a guided tour to Danakil Depression and keep yourself well prepared to avoid any unforeseen circumstances due to extreme heat.

  1. Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa is the largest city of Ethiopia and is a must-see destination. The city is home to several incredible sites including Museums, cathedrals, and monuments. Besides the tourist destinations, you’ll find delicious Ethiopian cuisine in Addis Ababa. The city also offers some of the best coffee you’ll ever have in your entire life. When in Addis Ababa, you’ll find coffee from nearly every café and restaurant but you must try coffee from a local food chain called ‘Tomoca’. In short, there are plenty of interesting things to do in this amazing city of Ethiopia.

  1. Harar

Harar is a beautiful holy city of Ethiopia which is dating back to around 1500. It is also the oldest Islamic city on the continent. Harar is widely known for its spectacular city walls and historic buildings. It is home to around 100 Islamic mosques. This city is also very famous for its hyenas which come out at night. These animals get friendly with the visitors especially those who feed them. Besides the mosques and hyenas, Harar features several unique museums and scrumptious traditional food.

The Rift Valley is another hottest tourist destination of Ethiopia. The valley is home to several stunning lakes, hot springs, and exotic African wildlife. For all the nature and animal lovers, Rift valley is no less than a paradise. You can stroll around the valley, witness the wildlife and even bathe in the hot springs which are widely known for their therapeutic purposes.

  1. Omo Valley

If you want to meet the tribal people of Ethiopia, Omo Valley is a place to go. This valley is home to some of the friendliest indigenous people who are still living their true culture and haven’t been inspired by the modern world. You’ll find more than a dozen tribes of people with painted faces wearing beautiful body ornaments. The valley is also very famous for its African Safaris which you won’t find anywhere else in Ethiopia.
